Begomovirus capsicummusivi is a significant plant pathogen classified under the Begomovirus genus of the Geminiviridae family. It is a DNA virus that causes severe systemic infections in various solanaceous crops, leading to substantial economic losses in both open-field and greenhouse vegetable production systems.

The primary hosts for this pathogen include sweet peppers, chili peppers, and tomatoes. Additionally, various wild solanaceous weed species can serve as natural reservoirs for the virus, allowing it to persist in the ecosystem during the off-season and providing a continuous source of inoculum for subsequent plantings.

Symptoms of the infection typically manifest as distinct yellow or light-green mosaic patterns on the foliage. Infected plants often display stunted growth, leaf curling, crinkling, and a general reduction in fruit size and yield quality. The physiological stress caused by the virus hampers the plant's ability to undergo normal metabolic processes.

Transmission of the virus is exclusively mediated by insect vectors, most notably the whitefly species Bemisia tabaci. The virus is acquired by the insect during feeding and then transmitted to healthy plants.
