Begomovirus macroptilifloridaense is a plant pathogen belonging to the Geminiviridae family. As a typical begomovirus, it possesses a single-stranded DNA genome and relies on specific insect vectors for transmission between host plants, causing significant economic losses in affected legume crops.

The virus is primarily associated with the host Macroptilium lathyroides, acting as a natural reservoir. However, it readily infects cultivated legumes, including common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). The virus interferes with the host's physiological processes, leading to stunted growth and reduced seed yield, which is critical for agricultural productivity.

Visible signs of infection include mosaic patterns on leaves, leaf curling, crinkling, and severe chlorosis. These symptoms often mimic nutrient deficiencies or damage caused by other viral agents, making precise diagnostics essential.
