As a single-stranded DNA virus, it poses a significant threat to various plant species. The primary host range of the virus includes various species within the Malvaceae family. Plants like Malvastrum and cotton are particularly susceptible. In agricultural settings, the virus can jump from wild perennial hosts to commercial crops, potentially causing widespread outbreaks if the environmental conditions are suitable for vector proliferation.
