Affected crops and transmission
The primary host for this pathogen is tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum), although it can affect various wild solanaceous weeds that serve as reservoirs. The disease is transmitted in a persistent circulative manner by the tobacco whitefly (Bemisia tabaci), which acquires the virus while feeding on infected sap and transmits it to healthy plants during subsequent feeding events.

Symptoms and signs
Infected plants exhibit severe leaf curling, distortion, and a reduction in leaf size. Leaves often show a mosaic pattern or yellowing (chlorosis). Stunting is a hallmark of the infection, with shortened internodes leading to a rosette appearance at the plant apex. The developmental anomalies prevent the plant from producing commercially viable tobacco leaves.
