Begomovirus sidaboliviaenseprimi is a viral pathogen of the Begomovirus genus, which causes systemic infections in various vegetable crops. As a member of the Geminiviridae family, it contains a circular, single-stranded DNA genome and poses a severe threat to agricultural production worldwide.

The virus primarily targets Solanaceous plants, including tomatoes, peppers, and various tobacco species. Due to its broad host range, including common weeds found in agroecosystems, the virus can persist in the environment even when primary crops are not present, making it difficult to eradicate completely.

Symptoms of infection are highly characteristic and often include upward leaf curling, yellowing of leaf margins, severe stunting of the plant, and significant floral abortion. Infected leaves often show a mosaic pattern or vein clearing, which leads to a substantial reduction in the plant's capacity for photosynthesis.

The virus is transmitted in a persistent circulative manner by the whitefly Bemisia tabaci. The efficiency of transmission is very high, meaning that even a relatively small population of whiteflies can cause a widespread outbreak within a field in a very short amount of time if weather conditions are favorable.
