The primary host range of this virus includes plants within the Solanaceae family. Economically significant crops such as tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes are highly susceptible. The presence of reservoir hosts, particularly weeds within the nightshade family, allows the virus to persist in the environment even when primary crops are not being cultivated, making eradication extremely difficult.
