Solanum javaense begomovirus is a viral pathogen belonging to the genus Begomovirus. As a member of the Geminiviridae family, it poses a significant threat to agricultural production by causing systemic viral infections that disrupt essential physiological processes within the plant host.

The host range of this virus primarily includes members of the Solanaceae family, such as tomatoes, bell peppers, and eggplants. The pathogen is known for its ability to cause severe economic losses, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions where the environmental conditions favor the proliferation of insect vectors.

Visible symptoms of infection typically include severe leaf curling, mosaic patterns, yellowing (chlorosis) of the foliage, and stunted overall plant growth. Infected crops often exhibit flower abortion and fruit malformation, leading to a substantial decrease in both the quality and quantity of the harvest.

The transmission of this virus is strictly dependent on insect vectors, most notably the whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). The virus is acquired by the insect through feeding on phloem sap of infected plants and is then transmitted to healthy plants, where it persists throughout the insect's lifespan.
