It is known for causing significant damage to physiological functions in affected plants.

The virus primarily infects members of the Solanaceae family, including economically important crops such as tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. The pathogen survives in alternative weed hosts, which often serve as an inoculum source, ensuring the virus persists in the environment even when primary crops are not present.
