Begomovirus solanummalaysiaense is a viral pathogen belonging to the Geminiviridae family, specifically the Begomovirus genus. This virus possesses a circular single-stranded DNA genome and is known for its ability to cause severe systemic infections in various agricultural hosts, significantly impacting global food production.
The virus primarily affects plant species within the Solanaceae family, with tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants being the most susceptible. It thrives by utilizing the host plant's internal cellular machinery to replicate, leading to physiological disruption that persists throughout the plant's life cycle.
