Characterized by a circular single-stranded DNA genome, this virus acts as an obligate parasite, disrupting normal physiological functions within the host plant cells. It is specifically adapted to infect species within the Malvaceae family, significantly impacting their metabolic processes.

The host range is primarily focused on the Triumfetta genus, which is common in tropical and subtropical climates. The economic importance of this virus lies in its potential to jump to related agricultural crops such as cotton, okra, or hibiscus, potentially causing substantial yield losses in vulnerable areas if not managed correctly.

Infected plants typically display symptoms such as severe leaf curling, puckering, and yellow mosaic patterns. Stunting is a hallmark of this infection, as the virus inhibits cell division and elongation in apical meristems.
