Begomovirus tuberosumpanamaense is a plant pathogen classified within the genus Begomovirus and the family Geminiviridae. This viral disease is characterized by a circular single-stranded DNA genome. It infects the vascular system of the host plant, severely disrupting normal nutrient transport and photosynthetic activity.

The primary host for this pathogen is the potato (Solanum tuberosum). However, the virus can also persist in various weed species within the Solanaceae family, which serve as reservoirs during the off-season. The virus is predominantly found in warm regions where the environmental conditions support the life cycles of its primary insect vectors.

Symptoms of the infection typically include foliar chlorosis, mosaic patterns, leaf curling, and severe stunting of the potato plants. These morphological changes indicate an systemic infection that inhibits the plant's ability to produce tubers effectively, resulting in stunted overall growth and significant yield loss.
