Wissadula begomovirus is a viral pathogen classified within the genus Begomovirus, family Geminiviridae. This plant virus relies on insect vectors to infect hosts, interfering with plant cellular mechanisms and causing systemic physiological stress that severely inhibits normal plant development.

The virus primarily targets species within the Malvaceae family, notably the weed Wissadula amplissima. In agricultural settings, it poses a risk to surrounding susceptible crops, especially in tropical and subtropical regions where ecological conditions allow both the weed and the insect vector to thrive simultaneously.

Symptoms of an infection typically manifest as yellow mosaic patterns, leaf curling, and stunted growth. Affected plants often exhibit a drastic reduction in biomass and yield. The severity of these symptoms is usually proportional to the age of the plant at the time of infection, with early-stage exposure causing the most damage.
