It is a double-stranded RNA virus that typically causes persistent or latent infections in various plant hosts, particularly within the grass family (Poaceae), which are essential for pasture and forage production.
The host range of Betapartitivirus pratense includes various meadow grasses and cereal crops. While it is rarely associated with catastrophic crop failure, its presence in agricultural ecosystems is significant due to its ability to weaken plants, reduce biomass production, and compromise the overall quality of forage crops grown for livestock.
