Beet purple virus (Betapartitivirus purpurae) is a viral plant pathogen that primarily affects species within the Amaranthaceae family. As a member of the Partitiviridae family, this virus consists of double-stranded RNA encapsulated in isometric viral particles, which interfere with host cellular functions.
The primary hosts for this pathogen are different varieties of Beta vulgaris, including sugar beet and garden beet. Once a plant is infected, the virus systematically spreads through the vascular tissues, negatively impacting the host's ability to carry out photosynthesis and manage nutrient reserves effectively.
