Brome mosaic virus (BBMV) is a significant plant pathogen belonging to the Bromovirus genus. As a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus, it is widely recognized for its ability to induce systemic infection, severely impacting the host plant’s physiology, specifically hindering photosynthesis and vegetative growth.

The primary hosts of BBMV are grasses (Poaceae). Key agricultural crops affected by the virus include wheat, barley, maize, and various species of brome grass.
