Aconitum latent virus (Carlavirus latensaconiti) is a plant-pathogenic virus belonging to the Carlavirus genus. It primarily impacts the health and aesthetic value of Aconitum species, which are popular ornamental plants in gardens worldwide.
The virus is characterized by its latent nature, meaning that infected plants often do not show immediate or obvious symptoms. However, the virus remains present in the plant tissues, negatively affecting its physiological processes, general vigor, and resilience against other environmental stressors.
Key symptoms include mild mottling, chlorotic spots, or mosaic patterns on the leaves. In more severe cases, growers may notice stunted growth, reduced flower production, and malformed foliage. These symptoms can be easily overlooked or mistaken for nutrient deficiencies or environmental stress.
