The Misolani virus (Carlavirus misolani) is a significant viral plant pathogen classified under the Carlavirus genus within the Betaflexiviridae family. The virus systemically invades the host plant, disrupting internal physiological processes, including nutrient transport and chlorophyll synthesis, which stunts the plant's overall growth potential.
The virus affects a diverse range of plant hosts, with particular susceptibility found among solanaceous and legume crops. Once a plant is infected, the virus spreads through the phloem to all plant parts, making it extremely difficult to eradicate once it has established itself within the plant's vascular system.
