Description
The causative agent of this disease is a virus classified within the Caulimoviridae family (Caulimovirus glycinis). It acts as a systemic pathogen that colonizes the host's vascular tissues, leading to widespread disruption of metabolic functions, severe developmental retardation, and reduced photosynthetic capacity of the affected plants.
The primary host for this viral pathogen is soybean (Glycine max). While the virus is highly host-specific, it can occasionally be isolated from other legume species present in the agroecosystem. These wild hosts play a critical role in the survival of the virus during the off-season, serving as a primary source of inoculum for new infections.
Key symptoms of the infection include chlorotic mosaic patterns on the foliage, leaf curling, and overall stunting of the plant.
