Arabidopsis mosaic, caused by Caulimovirus tessellomirabilis, is a viral infection that primarily affects plants belonging to the Brassicaceae family. As a member of the Caulimovirus genus, this pathogen contains double-stranded DNA and utilizes complex mechanisms to replicate within the host cells, leading to systemic physiological stress.
The primary hosts for this virus are members of the Brassicaceae family, including Arabidopsis and various agricultural brassica crops such as canola, mustard, and cabbage varieties. The impact on these plants is often severe, leading to impaired growth and reduced fitness, which can be particularly damaging in commercial farming environments.
Clinical signs of the infection include a distinct mosaic pattern on leaves, characterized by alternating patches of light and dark green tissues. Plants often exhibit stunted growth, leaf curling, and overall deformation.
