Pistachio cilevirus (Cilevirus pistaciae) is a viral plant pathogen that poses a threat to the global pistachio industry. Belonging to the Cilevirus genus, this virus affects the physiological processes of host plants, leading to a significant decline in tree health and productivity.
The disease is caused by a virus that colonizes the plant's vascular tissues. As a systemic disease, it impacts the entire metabolic balance of the pistachio tree, often resulting in complex symptoms that require laboratory testing for accurate identification and confirmation.
The primary host for this virus is the pistachio tree (Pistacia vera). While the virus may affect trees of various ages, young plantations are particularly vulnerable to the initial infection, which can hinder the establishment of healthy orchard blocks.
