Citlodavirus is a genus of viruses within the Aspiviridae family. As a plant pathogen, it primarily targets solanaceous crops, leading to severe physiological disruptions within the host plants and significant yield losses in commercial agricultural settings.

The virus mainly affects economically important plants such as tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. Because it is a systemic infection, the virus spreads through the vascular tissues, affecting the overall growth and reproductive capacity of the infected plants.

Symptoms of Citlodavirus infection are quite diverse and often include interveinal mosaic patterns, leaf yellowing (chlorosis), leaf distortion, and stunted plant development. Infected crops often produce lower yields, with fruit that is small, deformed, or discolored, rendering it unmarketable.

The transmission of the virus occurs via vectors like whiteflies or aphids, which carry the virus from infected to healthy plants while feeding. Additionally, human activities, including pruning and handling plants with contaminated tools, can facilitate the rapid spread of the pathogen within greenhouses.
