The disease is caused by pathogenic fungi that thrive in humid environments, attacking various commercial citrus varieties including lemons, oranges, and grapefruits. The pathogen invades the plant tissues, disrupting normal metabolic processes and creating entry points for secondary infections that can further damage the tree structure.
