Citrus yellow-vein is a viral disease caused by the Citrus yellow-vein virus (CYVV), which negatively impacts the physiological state of citrus plants. This pathogen is known to disrupt the vascular tissue, leading to structural and functional anomalies within the leaves and stems of affected trees.

The primary hosts for this disease include various species of the genus Citrus, such as lemons, limes, and oranges. The virus is primarily transmitted through vegetative propagation methods, specifically through the use of infected buds or scion wood during grafting, as well as mechanical transmission via contaminated cutting tools.

Symptoms are characterized by distinct yellowing of the leaf veins, which creates a prominent chlorotic network across the leaf surface. As the infection progresses, the foliage may exhibit signs of necrosis or deformation, leading to reduced photosynthetic capacity and stunted overall development of the tree canopy.

The development of the virus is often latent, meaning trees may carry the infection without showing immediate outward signs until a period of environmental stress occurs. Spread within a commercial orchard is typically facilitated by poor sanitation practices, where tools are not disinfected between pruning or grafting different trees.

Management strategies for this condition are strictly preventative since there is no chemical cure for viral infections in plants.
