Oak emaravirus (Emaravirus quercus) is a distinct plant virus belonging to the genus Emaravirus, which primarily affects oak tree species. This viral pathogen causes systemic infection, leading to visible physiological changes in host trees. It is characterized by its ability to persist within the plant tissue, causing chronic health decline over several growing seasons.

The primary hosts of this virus are members of the Quercus genus. The disease is a significant concern for both forest ecosystems and urban landscaping, as it can reduce the lifespan of infected trees. Because the virus disrupts normal hormonal and metabolic pathways, the affected trees exhibit poor growth, low vigor, and increased susceptibility to environmental stressors.

Symptoms of the infection include leaf mosaic patterns, yellowing (chlorosis), and severe distortion of the foliage. In many cases, infected trees display signs of 'witches' broom' or abnormal shoot proliferation. These symptoms are often more pronounced in younger, developing leaves, making the infection easier to detect during the early spring growth flush.
