Enamovirus is a genus of plant viruses within the Solemoviridae family that induces systemic viral diseases in various agricultural crops. These viruses function as obligate plant pathogens, interfering with the host's physiological processes such as nutrient transport and photosynthesis. Their biological cycle is inherently linked to their insect vectors, which transmit the pathogen while feeding.
The primary hosts of Enamovirus include various members of the Fabaceae family, with chickpeas being a key agricultural target. Other affected legumes include peas, alfalfa, and clover. The virus effectively colonizes the phloem, causing significant disruption to the plant's vascular development and metabolic efficiency.

Consequently, the prevalence of the disease peaks during periods of high aphid migration, often triggered by specific temperature and humidity conditions that favor vector breeding.
Management and prevention focus on reducing the primary inoculum and vector pressure. Effective control strategies involve maintaining spatial isolation between commercial legume fields and perennial weed reservoirs. Applying targeted insecticide treatments during the early stages of chickpea growth is critical to prevent the establishment of the virus.
