Cucurbit fabavirus (Fabavirus cucurbitaceae) is a viral plant pathogen that primarily affects members of the Cucurbitaceae family. As a systemic disease, it impacts the vascular system of the host plant, significantly disrupting nutrient transport and interfering with the process of photosynthesis, which leads to stunted growth and reduced crop yields.

The primary hosts of this virus include widely cultivated vegetables such as cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins, watermelons, and melons. The impact of the disease is particularly severe in greenhouse environments where high humidity and temperature ranges favor both the growth of host plants and the population dynamics of insect vectors.

The characteristic symptoms of infection involve mosaic-like mottling on leaves, leaf deformation, and distinct chlorosis. Infected plants typically show reduced vigor and shortened internodes. Fruits from affected plants are often malformed, smaller in size, and exhibit mottled skin, rendering them unsuitable for market distribution and reducing the total economic output of the farm.

The transmission of this virus is primarily mediated by insect vectors, most notably aphids. These insects acquire the virus during feeding and transmit it to healthy plants almost immediately through non-persistent transmission.
