Gammapartitivirus aspergilli is a specific type of mycovirus known to infect fungi belonging to the Aspergillus genus. As a member of the Partitiviridae family, this virus consists of a double-stranded RNA genome enclosed in a protein capsid, and it replicates entirely within the fungal host cells.
The host range is primarily restricted to Aspergillus species, which are ubiquitous in soil, stored grains, and agricultural substrates. While not a direct plant pathogen, the virus acts as an intracellular parasite of these fungi, potentially altering the ecological niche occupied by its host within the field environment.
