Goravirus drakeae is a viral pathogen known for causing systemic infections in a variety of horticultural and agricultural crop species. As a ribonucleic acid (RNA) virus, it infiltrates the host's vascular tissue, disrupting metabolic processes and preventing normal nutrient translocation throughout the plant system.
The virus primarily targets species within the Solanaceae family and certain ornamental plants that thrive in high-humidity environments. Its host range is wide enough to facilitate survival across different growing seasons, making it a persistent threat in both greenhouse and open-field cultivation systems.
Symptoms of infection are visually distinct and often manifest as mosaic patterns, chlorotic mottling of leaves, and severe stunting. Furthermore, mechanical transmission via contaminated cutting tools or farm equipment during routine maintenance serves as a critical pathway for the pathogen's spread within a nursery.
