Lolavirus is a genus of viruses within the family Betaflexiviridae that primarily infects species of the Poaceae family. These pathogens are significant in agricultural settings, particularly affecting forage grasses such as ryegrass. Understanding the biology of this virus is essential for managing viral pressure in permanent pastures and meadowlands.

The virus consists of a single-stranded positive-sense RNA genome. It is known to spread primarily through insect vectors, such as aphids, which acquire the virus while feeding on infected plant tissues and subsequently transmit it to healthy plants. Mechanical transmission can also occur, though it is usually less significant in field conditions compared to vector-mediated spread.
