Martellivirales is a major order of positive-sense single-stranded RNA viruses within the class Alsuviricetes. These viruses are significant plant pathogens known for causing severe systemic infections in various agricultural crops. They represent a critical challenge in plant pathology due to their ability to hijack host plant metabolic processes for viral replication.

The host range of these viruses is broad, affecting essential crops such as tomatoes, potatoes, tobacco, and cucurbits. By infiltrating the plant’s vascular system, these viruses inhibit nutrient translocation, which fundamentally undermines the plant's ability to maintain its growth cycles and fruit production.

Symptoms of infection are diverse and often visually distinct. They include mosaic patterns on foliage, leaf curling, vein clearing, and yellowing (chlorosis).
