Mastrevirus oryzaprimi is a viral pathogen classified within the genus Mastrevirus, known to cause significant streak symptoms in various grass species. This virus possesses a single-stranded DNA genome and functions as a systemic pathogen that colonizes the phloem of host plants, leading to severe physiological disruptions and stunted growth patterns.

The primary host for this virus is rice (Oryza sativa), although it exhibits a host range that includes various wild grasses. These alternative hosts are critical for the survival of the pathogen in the environment when primary rice crops are not present. The persistence of the virus in these ecological niches presents a constant threat to new planting seasons.

Symptoms of the infection manifest primarily on the foliage. Infected plants display characteristic yellow or chlorotic streaks running parallel to the leaf veins.
