Nanovirus flaviviciae, commonly associated with Faba bean necrotic yellows virus (FBNYV), is a plant pathogenic virus belonging to the Nanoviridae family. It possesses a circular single-stranded DNA genome segmented into multiple components. As a vascular pathogen, the virus primarily restricts its replication to the phloem tissues, causing severe systemic disorders in the host plant.

Host range and distribution
The primary host for this virus is the faba bean (Vicia faba), though it has a broad host range within the legume family (Fabaceae), including lentils, chickpeas, and various vetches. It is prevalent in several agricultural regions across the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and parts of Africa, where environmental conditions support large populations of insect vectors.

Symptoms and signs
Infected plants typically display interveinal chlorosis, which eventually develops into yellowing and mosaic patterns. Severe stunting, shortened internodes, and leaf curling are hallmark symptoms of advanced infection. The plant's overall growth is significantly inhibited, and in susceptible varieties, the development of pods and seeds is severely compromised, leading to poor yields.

Development and economic impact
The virus is transmitted by several aphid species, most notably Acyrthosiphon pisum and Aphis craccivora, in a persistent, circulative manner. Once an aphid acquires the virus, it remains infectious for the rest of its life.
