Bulgarian nepovirus (Nepovirus bulgariense) is a significant plant pathogen within the Nepovirus genus, known for causing systemic diseases in various agricultural crops. The virus is recognized for its ability to persist in the environment and transmit through specific vectors, which makes it a persistent threat to perennial plantations and orchards.
The primary hosts of this virus include grapevines and other woody plant species. The infection often leads to chronic disease states, as the virus spreads throughout the plant tissue, affecting its ability to photosynthesize, transport nutrients, and maintain healthy growth cycles throughout the vegetative season.
Symptoms of the infection typically include foliar mottling, chlorotic rings, stunting of shoot growth, and fruit malformation.
