Grapevine deformation virus (Nepovirus deformationis) is a serious viral pathogen affecting viticulture. As a member of the Nepovirus genus, this virus is characterized by its ability to cause severe systemic infections, primarily transmitted by soil-dwelling nematodes.

The virus primarily affects grapevine varieties. It is a major concern for commercial vineyards because it spreads stealthily via infested soil and contaminated cuttings, often remaining undetected until significant damage to the plant's architecture has already occurred.

Symptoms of the infection include leaf distortion, asymmetry, and distinct mosaic patterns on the foliage. Infected vines typically display stunted growth, shortened internodes, and a marked reduction in berry set, which significantly decreases the overall commercial yield of the vineyard.
