Soybean ringspot virus, associated with Nepovirus glycinis, is a significant viral pathogen that affects legume crops globally. As a member of the Nepovirus genus, it is characterized by transmission through seeds and soil-inhabiting nematodes, making it a persistent threat in soybean production regions.
The primary host for this virus is soybean (Glycine max). While the virus is economically damaging to soybean production, it can also persist in various weed species within the legume family, which serve as alternative hosts and reservoirs, complicating standard field sanitation efforts.
Symptoms of the infection typically manifest as chlorotic ring spots on leaves, which may transition into necrotic lesions as the disease progresses.
