Solanum nepovirus (Nepovirus solani) is a significant plant viral pathogen belonging to the Nepovirus genus. This disease poses a serious threat to the vitality of various crops, leading to substantial yield losses and reducing the overall market quality of harvests in affected agricultural zones.
The host range of this virus primarily includes members of the Solanaceae family. Economically important plants, such as tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and eggplants, are the most susceptible to infection. The virus can also survive in asymptomatic weeds, serving as a persistent reservoir within the environment.
Diagnostic symptoms of the disease include systemic mosaic patterns on leaves, chlorotic rings, mottling, and general plant stunting. Infected plants often display shortened internodes and distorted foliage.
