The Tunisian necrotic spot virus (Nepovirus tunisiaense) is a viral plant pathogen belonging to the Nepovirus genus. This disease primarily affects the cellular integrity of the host plant, leading to systemic infection. As a member of the nepovirus group, it is characterized by specific transmission mechanisms, often involving soil-borne nematodes, which makes it a challenging threat to agricultural productivity.
This virus primarily infects Solanaceous crops, with tomatoes being one of the most susceptible targets. The pathogen can colonize various parts of the host plant, disrupting physiological processes such as photosynthesis and nutrient translocation, which eventually hinders the plant's ability to produce healthy fruits.
