Ranunculus ophiovirus (Ophiovirus ranunculi) is a viral pathogen belonging to the genus Ophiovirus. The virus possesses a segmented single-stranded RNA genome and primarily affects plant species within the Ranunculaceae family, causing significant physiological disruptions to the host.

The primary host for this virus is the garden ranunculus (Ranunculus asiaticus). While it remains specific to certain hosts, the presence of the virus can be detrimental to commercial flower production, leading to stunted growth and loss of marketability for ornamental nursery stocks.

Infected plants typically display visible symptoms such as mosaic patterns on foliage, chlorotic spots, ring-like discolorations, and leaf curling. These symptoms significantly impact the aesthetic value of the plants and often lead to reduced flower production and overall poor plant vigor.

The transmission of the virus is largely facilitated by soil-borne fungal vectors, specifically Olpidium brassicae, which carry the virus to the root systems. Furthermore, the virus can be spread through mechanical contact with infected tools or through the trade of contaminated tubers and propagation material.

Management strategies focus on strict sanitation and the use of certified virus-free propagation material.
