It is most notably recognized as a significant pathogen affecting Pelargonium species. As a systemic disease, the virus infiltrates the host's vascular system, causing metabolic disturbances that permanently impact the plant's growth and vitality.

The primary hosts are species of the genus Pelargonium, commonly known as geraniums. While some infections may remain latent for extended periods, the virus can readily spread to other closely related ornamental species when conditions favor contact. Understanding the host range is critical for managing greenhouses where diverse varieties of flowers are cultivated together.
