The disease affects solanaceous crops, with Physalis being the primary host. The virus is capable of infecting not only cultivated species but also wild relatives within the family, which often act as reservoir hosts during the winter months, ensuring the persistence of the virus in the environment.
Symptoms initially appear as a chlorotic yellowing of the leaf veins, which creates a distinct contrast against the green leaf blade.
