The causative agent of this plant disease is Potyvirus capsivenamaculae, a viral pathogen classified within the Potyvirus genus. As an obligate parasite, it relies entirely on the host's cellular machinery to replicate, causing significant physiological disruptions that affect the overall health and yield of susceptible plants.
The primary host for this pathogen is the bell pepper (Capsicum annuum). While the virus can persist in various wild solanaceous species, its impact is most economically damaging in commercial pepper production, where it can cause widespread infection if left unchecked.
Symptoms are most prominently observed on the foliage, where chlorotic vein banding and mosaic patterns develop along the leaf veins.
