Chamaescilla potyvirus (Potyvirus chamaescillae) is a significant plant pathogen belonging to the Potyviridae family. As an obligate intracellular parasite, this virus relies entirely on the host plant's cellular machinery to replicate, causing systemic infection that disrupts essential plant physiological processes.

The host range is primarily limited to Chamaescilla corymbosa and related species within the Asparagaceae family. This specificity makes the virus particularly damaging in localized areas where these plants are grown, as it can circulate undetected in wild populations before invading managed cultivation sites.

Typical symptoms include systemic mosaic patterns, chlorotic mottling, and yellowing of the foliage. Infected plants often show stunted growth, distorted leaf development, and poor inflorescence quality. These symptoms significantly impact the aesthetic value and overall vigor of the host plant, often leading to a gradual decline in health over subsequent growing seasons.
