Lily mottle virus (Potyvirus lilimaculae) is a viral pathogen that significantly impacts the cultivation of lily plants. As a member of the Potyvirus genus, this virus colonizes the plant's vascular system and uses host resources to replicate. It causes systemic infection, meaning the virus spreads throughout the bulbs, leaves, and stems of the plant.
The host range is primarily limited to the Lilium genus. Commercial and garden lily varieties are highly susceptible to this pathogen. When a lily is infected, it remains a permanent reservoir for the virus, and the pathogen can persist in the bulbs from season to season, complicating long-term plant health management.
Symptoms of the infection typically involve mosaic patterns on the leaves, chlorotic spots, and varying degrees of foliage deformation.
