The Narcissus yellow stripe virus, known scientifically as Potyvirus narcissus (or more specifically Narcissus yellow stripe virus, NYSV), is a significant viral pathogen affecting bulbous ornamental plants. As a systemic disease, it impacts the entire vascular system of the plant, often leading to reduced vigor and declining yields in commercial flower production.

The host range is primarily limited to the genus Narcissus. Once infected, the virus becomes an inseparable part of the plant's biological cycle, as it resides within the bulbs. This ensures that the virus persists in the stock, leading to long-term issues for nursery growers and gardeners alike.

Symptoms are most visible on the foliage during the active growing season. They manifest as yellow or light green stripes, streaks, and mottling patterns that run parallel to the leaf veins. In severe cases, the entire plant may show signs of stunting, and the flowers often exhibit color breaking, deformity, or reduced size, significantly affecting their market quality.
