Rhopalanthi mosaic virus (Potyvirus rhopalanthi) is a viral plant pathogen belonging to the genus Potyvirus within the Potyviridae family. As a viral disease, it causes systemic infections that interrupt vital physiological functions in host plants, leading to stunted growth, reduced biomass, and significant yield losses in agricultural ecosystems.
The virus has a diverse host range, primarily infecting members of the Solanaceae and Fabaceae families. It can thrive in a wide variety of cultivated vegetables and ornamental plants. Additionally, the virus frequently persists in alternative host plants, particularly wild weed species, which serve as primary reservoirs for the virus to survive unfavorable winter conditions and re-emerge in spring.
Clinical symptoms of infection typically include distinctive mosaic patterns on the leaf surfaces, characterized by irregular patches of yellow or pale green discoloration.
