Rosadnavirus

Description

Rosadnavirus is a group of plant viruses belonging to the Secoviridae family. This pathogen causes systemic infections that disrupt normal metabolism and growth processes in affected agricultural crops, leading to significant yield losses in commercial production.

The primary manifestation of the disease involves viral spotting, chlorosis, and tissue deformation. The pathogen enters the plant through mechanical wounds or via specific insect vectors, after which the virus rapidly spreads through the vascular system, colonizing meristematic tissues.

This virus affects a wide range of vegetable and ornamental crops. Members of the Solanaceae and Fabaceae families are particularly sensitive to the pathogen, where the infection manifests most aggressively, thereby reducing the commercial quality of the produce.

The main symptoms of infection include:

  • Development of a mosaic pattern on leaf blades.
  • Interveinal chlorosis and necrotic spots.
  • Leaf deformation, curling, and stunted growth.
  • Flower abortion and fruit deformation.

To prevent the spread of Rosadnavirus, strict phytosanitary control is essential. Critical measures include managing insect vectors, utilizing certified virus-free planting material, and the timely removal of infected plants from the field to minimize primary infection reservoirs.
