Sobelivirales is a major order of RNA viruses that poses a significant threat to various agricultural and ornamental crops. These pathogens hijack the host plant's cellular machinery to replicate, causing metabolic disruptions that often result in stunted growth, chlorosis, and severe yield losses across many regions of the world.
The host range of these viruses is diverse, encompassing essential food crops such as cereals, legumes, and several vegetable families. Because these viruses interfere with fundamental plant processes like photosynthesis and nutrient transport, the physiological health of the plant is compromised shortly after the initial infection.
Symptoms typically manifest as mosaic patterns on leaves, distinct yellowing or streaking (chlorosis), and overall dwarfing of the plant.
