The primary host for this pathogen is cultivated rice (Oryza sativa). While the virus can be found in various rice-growing regions, its prevalence is strictly dependent on the geographic distribution and population dynamics of its specific insect vectors.
Symptoms are easily identifiable during the heading stage. Plants exhibit severe stunting, a significant reduction in internode length, and the production of malformed, shortened panicles. This leads to poor grain filling and a high proportion of empty husks, causing substantial yield losses.
