Causative agent and disease type. The disease is caused by Tobamovirus rapae, a virus classified within the Tobamovirus genus. As an obligate plant pathogen, it invades host cells to replicate, causing systemic infection throughout the plant. Affected crops. The virus primarily infects rapeseed (canola), but its host range includes a variety of other Brassicaceae family members. Protection and prevention measures. Because there are no curative chemical treatments for viral infections in field crops, management strategies must focus entirely on preventative practices:
