Singapore tobamovirus (Tobamovirus singaporense) is a highly contagious plant virus that poses a significant threat to global horticulture, particularly within the solanaceous crop family. Being a member of the Tobamovirus genus, this pathogen is renowned for its environmental stability and ability to persist on surfaces, tools, and in organic matter for extended periods.
The primary hosts of this virus include commercially important crops such as tomatoes and peppers. It is particularly devastating in high-density greenhouse environments where plants are frequently handled, creating numerous opportunities for the virus to spread from infected to healthy specimens through simple physical contact.
Symptoms in affected plants are often systemic. Growers may observe mosaic patterns, yellowing (chlorosis), leaf curling, and severe stunting.
